The Catalina is an iconic American boatplane used primarily in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. It is known for being reliable, simple, flexible and durable. They can carry a number of machineguns and autocannons in turret mounts, a few tons of exterior ordinance and equipment for a variety of missions depending on need (photography, radar, rescue, etc.) Contrary to popular belief, the baseline PBY-5 model is not amphibious, though the most common model is the PBY-5A, which can land and take off at sea. Most non-amphibious PBY-5s have been converted to PBY-5As, at least within Oceanyka. Catalinas are extremely hardy and can operate alone for a long time without requiring refuelling or repairs. Oceanykan airmen appreciate the Catalina and its capacity to carry out amphibious missions with extreme efficacy, though in combat it is decidedly obsolete.
