The Republic of Indonesia is a country located in south-east Asia, encompassing much of the Malay Archipelago. It is led by President Suharto, a pragmatic, slightly pro-western strongman who in 1964 successfully wrested power from Indonesia's first president, Sukarto. However, Indonesia is riddled with problems. While once united against the Dutch coloniser, its many sects and ethnicities now squabble against each other and against the government, now joined by ideological extremists. But the greatest security and financial threat to Indonesia is the Australian pirate problem. These men of fortune use Indonesia's many isles, coves and jungles as bases of operations for black market trading, smuggling, piracy, ransoms, raiding and a host of other activities. Military and economic aid from the United States and international policing have helped quell, but not quite eliminate the problem. This, and growing communist activity, is making the Indonesian military restless...

Indonesia is inhabited by a variety of ethnic groups, the majority of which are part of the wider Austronesian peoples, and the largest of them being the Javanese, who inhabit their namesake island. One particular example, however, lies in the R'lyeh peoples, who possess a distinctive language and religion that worships an old god sleeping under the sea. It is believed that the Easter Island was initially colonised by these peoples, who built the moai and were then conquered by a second wave of Polynesian settlers. The R'lyeh people are a special focus point of the world's Paranormal Research 🎃 agencies.
