The Republic of New Libertatia is a pirate republic which has de-facto control of Madagascar, land that it uses as its base of operations. It was founded by it's current leader, Grand Admiral Roger Crustcrack IV, former captain of the FPN Floating Fortress before its partial destruction by German forces in 1961. Frustrated by what he saw as "Comintern pandering" within the Farenday Pirates, Roger emigrated towards eastern Africa, where after a series of naval battles he amassed a significant flotilla, learning multiple local languages. In late 1963 he successfully defeated Madagacar's National Army, and proclaimed the Republic of New Libertatia, based upon the traditional concepts of "pirate social-democracy". Needless to say, Libertatia's growing influence in the Indian Ocean has attracted attention from the region's already established multinational criminal empire, the Farenday Pirate Syndicate. Almost immediately these two rogue state began clashing across the sea, in what historians consider one of the most bizarre conflicts of the mid-1960s; the Buccaneer Wars.
