Grappling hooks which can carry the full weight of a soldier must be made from either heavier and stronger materials such as steel or novel alloys such as those from the Titanium group. In either case, a stronger firing mechanism is needed to propel it any significant distance. For this purpose full calibre rifles and shotguns are preferred over intermediate calibre rifles, which simply cannot launch the grappling hook.
