The National Volunteer Firefighter Corps is an organ of the Department of Nature tasked with preventing, monitoring and responding to large scale natural disasters which threaten vast swathes of the Oceanykan Federation's ecosystems (the primary being, by far, bushfires). Despite its name, the NVFC does not perform any work within cities or towns, where local firefighters associations and volunteers take care of the work. Traditionally the response to a bushfire was slow and terribly coordinated, but did involve a large amount of volunteers from all across the region, primarily sent by landowners, free farmers, woodcutters, bushranchers and tribesmen whose livelihood was at stake. The NVFC offers an airmobile, fast-response alternative which is able to isolate and extinguish bushfires before they gain their infamous size, or coordinate an effective regional response should that first attempt fail.
