During the interwar period, many nations developed armour-piercing steel projectiles fit with a very simple base fuze and filled with high explosives, deemed APHE. These shells displaced traditional solid shot throughout most of the world due to their terminal effects upon penetrating an enemy armoured vehicle, obliterating anything and anyone inside.

APHEC and APHECBC are similar types of ammunition with an aerodynamic steel cap in the front, allowing for greater ballistic performance.

Game Stats

When employing generic APHE shot:

  • Apply full EXP-DMG.
  • Apply full PEN.
  • Reduce the Frag Rules rating by one level.
    • For example, if a 105mm HE shell would be treated as a Heavy Explosive, a 105mm APHE shell would be treated as a Medium Explosive.
  • Apply fragmentation effects after the round has penetrated a target. If it strikes terrain, ignore fragmentation.

As APHE Shells are Kinetic before impact, they lose PEN over distance.

  • Point Blank Range - No penalty.
  • Close Range (≤10m / 2sq) -> No penalty.
  • Short Range (≤50m / 5sq) -> No penalty.
  • Average Range (≤200m / 10sq) -> No penalty.
  • Medium Range (≤500m / 20sq) -> -1 PEN
  • Long Range (≤1000m / 50sq) -> -2 PEN
  • Very Long Range (≤2000m) -> -3 PEN
  • Extreme Range (>2000m) -> -4 PEN
