Flare rounds have two uses.
- When fired towards the sky, they illuminate an area with the following characteristics:
- AOE-AR/LD (LUZ)
- When fired towards a target they do no DMG but always possess the BRN modifier (inflicts Burning).
Flare shells began appearing in the late 19th century to aid seamen, explorers and aircraft pilots in being noticed and rescued by nearby travellers, especially in isolated areas such as forests, tundra or deserted islands. They also make for decent incendiary munitions. Though "gauge" flares exist, the most common calibres are 26.5mm or 25mm.
