Dilga is a young goddess in Dreamtime lore, born as a daughter of Birrangulu and Barraiya. She originally lived alone in the seas, for the creatures of the land were too strong. Though she tried to have children with many creatures, they would all die eaten by sharks and other predators. All gods adored Dilga for her unmatched beauty, and even those who were married sought her, but she could only mate with earthly creatures. The creator deity Bunjil found himself enamored in a more platonic manner and decided to grant her a single wish, thus creating Ankotarinja, the first man and who Dilga chose to marry. They had many children who spread throughout the land, those being humanity. After Ankotarinja's death, his spirit rose to Dilga's garden and forever remained in her embrace.
She is the patron of wives, midwives, prostitutes, concubines and girls.
