Tingari Cycle Songlines and Songsites

Social Context

The Tingari Cycle refer to a network of songlines and songsites which, through cultural and religious language, create an "artistic map" of Oceanyka. Songlines are the physical path which these stories, usually presented as songs as their name indicates, follow. They usually describe the shortest or most convenient route to reach one place and another; the "nexus" between these songlines are the songsites, physical places described in great detail in all of their appereances.

According to legend, the "Tingari Men" which gave their name to this phenomenon were the first ones to exist, recording their travels and passing them on by oral tradition over thousands of years. Through the use of the Tingari Cycle, a learned Oceanykan can traverse the continent without the use of maps.
