Murray Bass are large freshwater fish that dominate most of the Murray-Darling riverine ecosystem. They have fast metabolisms and breeding speeds, allowing them to grow and reproduce quickly. Predators, thanks to the aforementioned, can rely on Murray bass as a reliable source of protein within Oceanyka's eastern rivers. On the other hand, these rivers are some of the most economically productive in terms of fishing.
Catching Murray bass is not as simple as it seems. They are physically strong and tenacious when they feel endangered. While this poses little problem to the predators of Oceanyka, fishermen are constantly caught in dangerous situations with fish about their own weight flapping around ferociously. In the absence of natural predators, Murray bass can become pests. Extermination is nigh impossible without poisoning an entire system because these fish reproduce even faster when they detect that their population has gone down dramatically. Murray bass have become invasive species in numerous places around the world, though national governments have largely exterminated them.
