The Australian Trumpet is a large gastropod that inhabits the island continent's shallow seas and coasts. It can reach a length of 91cm and a weight of 18kg, though most are a bit smaller. They feed primarily on sea worms burrowed in the sand, which they reach with a 25cm long proboscis.
Shells of the Australian trumpet have been used as musical instruments, for jewelry and as decoration for millennia. Furthermore, its flesh is edible though regularly unappetising, unless it is prepared by a Montagnard chef.
