The M1 Garand is a semi-automatic rifle fielded by American forces during World War II. It fires 8 rounds of .30-06 ammunition from an en-bloc clip which is thrown out of the weapon when it is out of shots, producing its emblematic "ping" sound. The M1 Garand is gas-operated and has a rotating bolt. Furthermore, it is known for its accuracy, reliability and stopping power. Most military historians agree that this rifle was the finest of its type at the time. Despite the design being around 30 years old, many M1 Garands continue to be used worldwide, largely thanks to American arms exports. For example, the Imperial Domain of Indochina (South Vietnam) uses this as its standard infantry rifle.
