It has not been uncommon for individuals to seek a hermit's life in Oceanyka, surviving on their own means and using only what they can reap from nature. These people tend to be introverted and hold exotic beliefs, though they may also be exiles or victims of persecution. In general, survivalists tend to be well versed in a variety of skills such as hunting, fishing, gardening, first aid and self-defence, so they make good scouts when contracted for such work. Occasionally a family or small group may choose to live this way, though if a survivalist community grows too big, they may become a political entity in and of itself.
