The Messerschmitt Bf 109G “Gustav” is a German fighter aircraft and the most widely produced Luftwaffe fighter during World War II. It featured a cheaper and more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine, more unreliable than its predecessor. Of all types, the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 was the most common model and the most widely produced. The propeller, radiator and tail fin were enlarged to handle the 605's greater power output. Its nose armament was replaced with 13mm MG 131 machineguns, which were able to more effectively engage harder targets such as all-metal monoplanes and bombers. The two 20mm autocannons in each wing were replaced with one belt-fed motorkanone alternative with greater ammunition capacity, though adding additional autocannons in underwing pylons was an option.
