The kris is a type of Javanese short sword or long dagger designed for thrusting attacks, though it is double-edged. Its characteristic "wavy" shape is meant to prevent it from getting stuck in the target's bones. As part of the cultural exchange of the Oceanykan Early Middle Ages, kris swords became extremely popular throughout the continent, though more so in its northern regions. There are two main reasons for this; firstly, a kris had both individual and heritage value, a daily carry weapon for self-defence which could be passed down for generations as an heirloom. Perhaps more importantly though, it was believed to hold value both as a weapon and as a spiritual item, possessing otherworldly attributes. In a continent fraught with unknown dangers and mythical beasts, the kris gained a reputation as a "demon-killing" weapon which possessed strength and sharpness not only derived from its craftsmanship, but also from its magical attributes. To this day Hunters are required to carry a kris sword as a last resort weapon.
