The De Lisle Carbine is a British integrally-suppressed bolt-action rifle chambered in .45 ACP. It is sometimes called the Frankenstein gun since it's made up of a Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk. III receiver, a Thompson M1A1 barrel fit with a large suppressor and feeds from Colt M1911 7-round magazines. These weapons were created for and used by British commandos, including the Special Air Service amongst others. Their intended purpose was to kill sentries from afar without being heard, a role at which they excelled so much that MACV-SOG commandos continue using it in the Vietnam War. Because .45 ACP is subsonic, these weapons are totally silent without the need for special ammunition.
