The Gewehr 88 is a German bolt-action rifle. It was originally chambered in 8x57mm Patrone 88, but most were converted to be able to fire low-pressure loads of 7.92x57mm Mauser, feeding from a 5-round fixed magazine. It represents Germany's first smokeless powder rifle, an equaliser to the Fusil Modèle 1886 "Lebel", but its action is incapable of firing high-pressure smokeless loads. Another famous user of this rifle was the Qing Dynasty, which armed its modern units with this firearm. In the Oceanykan small arms market it is considered completely obsolete, primarily because it can't fire high pressure 8mm Mauser ammunition.
