The Australian Emergency Committee (AEC) is an Oceanykan ultranationalist organisation formed by the remnants of Oceanyka’s pre-revolutionary government. Amongst its ranks lie many former scientists, engineers, agents and Federal Army officers involved with secretive government projects such as Project GREYMAN, Project LIBERTY, Project TYRANT, the traitorous 2. Commando Regiment and even defectors from the Federal Special Research Division. AEC operatives and bases are few, well-hidden and spread out across the continent, some of the former infiltrated in key positions of power to exert pressure against the central government. The organisation opposes all foreign efforts to influence Oceanyka and is considered a rogue actor by the Cold War’s superpowers.
The AEC has its origins in the Oceanykan Government’s secret organisations of the late 1950s. Its members, becoming deeply aware of Oceanyka’s uniqueness and the power it could harness from the Precursors, as well as how many dangers to Oceanyka and to the human species lied in the vast emptiness of space and the infinity of the Dreamspace, began to conspire. A plan was drafted in case the Oceanykan Government ever collapsed, in which the nation’s best and brightest would take power of fight to seize it to protect the nation from foreign domination, alien invasion or eldritch madness.
This plan was activated in 1961, when Alan Redfort began the Oceanykan Revolution. Many of Oceanyka’s leaders believed that Redfort’s movement was part of a Soviet regime change operation planned and led by the KGB. Scientific data, schematics, prototypes, archives and documents were retrieved by anti-Redfort operatives or destroyed to prevent capture. These operatives and their leaders styled themselves as the Australian Emergency Committee and declared the Oceanykan Government as illegitimate. In the mid-1960s they would carry out a brutal, though largely unseen guerrilla war against Cestlep, while fending off foreign operations to retrieve Precursor artefacts or study anomalous phenomena.
In certain timelines, the Australian Emergency Committee stands as the last line of defence between Oceanyka, and mankind at large, against the eldritch All-Empire.
