A band of adventurers set out south towards the aarakocra bandit camps in the Central Flatlands on a heroic quest to save a deity from certain doom.
... Meanwhile, Kornellia Talis, a pink-haired grumpy human woman, and Torrid, a male half human, half fire genasi, are enjoying a drink together at Bruce n' Jimmy's when a womanly squeal interrupts them, screaming about rats. Our heroes-to-be discover that a plague of rats has overtaken many areas of Capital and are stealing items -- foods, utilities, treasures -- for no doubt nefarious purposes.
Following the marching of the seemingly intelligent rats that pillage the houses of Capital, they head to the sewers. Inside here, they discover a ruin deep beneath Capital in which they meet the ghost of a unicorn named Edonestra who bounces between extreme glee and sadness. She was once revered as a god by all the rats of Capital but this all stopped when The Resplendent One appeared and killed her. The rats now revere him instead. The two agreed to help her, and even kill some rats in the process so she could have some ghostly followers again.
Heading deeper, they find the antechamber, a large treasure room with piles of gold and stolen shiny goods. In here stands Tommy, the Resplendent One, Lord of Mices, Long May He Reign, praised by thousands of rats in unison. For bringing no suitable gifts, Tommy decides that Kornellia and Torrid must die.
The battle is a radiant display of vibrant magic, but eventually, Tommy is killed, and order is restored to Capital, now free of hoarding mice.
... Meanwhile, the dwarf, Harald Stahleckk, and the drow-blooded, Mortimer Renwick, have volunteered to help the Marble and Onyx Temples with what seems like an easy job: Pick up what looks to be the world's smallest parcel from the Birdspire Prime and set out to deliver it discreetly to the Hamlet School of Arcane Learning for studying.
After setting out, they investigate the parcel and find that it is the fragment of a small mirror. It pulled them out of place and out of time. First to a strange, dark, and misty place where they aided their... traveling companion? ... Tatyana in confronting 'Strahdy', a greasy 35-year-old who still lived in his mother's basement. After accidentally crushing his skull in the front door, they peered into the mirror again and were pulled back in time to a place on Iuzucae, in the year 71E, where they quickly angered a group of witch hunters.
Lastly, they were pulled to a small and quaint village on the border between the Riverlands and the Central Flatlands. Here they got in a scuffle with sweet Widow-Lady Eileen Abernathy who used to live in Pebble. She could sense, and wanted, what they were carrying, believing it would give her a link to 'beyond' so she could become a coven once again with her deceased hag sisters. In the fight, she bolstered herself with the life force of the neighbor, and almost took down Harald.
Deciding on no more looking into the mirror, they made the long journey, on foot, through the Riverlands, the River Gates, the Elven Aristocracy, and to Big Hamlet, where they were greeted by Sorben Arkavir, the headmaster, a young high elf formerly of Ascalon, and they performed what aid they could in setting up the studying of this odd mirror fragment.
