Hero's Garden

The Heroes’ Garden is the only green space in the city that is open to the public besides the City of the Dead, but it is tucked away so far to the north in the Sea Ward that it gets few visitors— a pity, since the fine statuary in this lush garden portrays many of the figures important to the city’s history.

Large, lush area of grass, trees, and ponds once covered by the sprawling school of wizardry known as the Tower of Yintros. Built by the archmage Yintros in 1038 DR, it passed to his apprentice Ulthorn in 1066 DR. He dwelt therein for over two centuries, educating generation after generation of Waterdhavian wizards, and died in a magical duel with the Archmage Ahrabose in 1306 DR.

In defeat, Yintros slew his vastly more powerful enemy by bringing the Tower of Yintros down upon them both. Many of searched the wreckage of the tower, seeking items of power and written spells. The blasted corpse of Ulthorn was found with his shattered staff and emerald sigil ring, but many other treasures were never located.
In the wake of the tower's destruction, the Lords of Waterdeep purchased the land on which it stood and the ruins of the tower were cleared and the land was transformed into a public park, known today as Heroes' Garden.
