The Gentle Mermaid

One of the largest gambling houses in all of Faerun, and a luxurious place to see and be seen among the fabulously wealthy.

The Mermaid's exterior is the haphazard result of several rich owners with more wealth than taste adding their ideas to an already ostentatious building. Inside, Waterdeep's wealthiest play at dice and cards in a soaring, pavilion-like gaming chamber scattered with circular cloth-covered tables, lit by slowly-shifting lights that play in a soft, continually changing show.

Others visit to enjoy the company of the charming and beautiful escorts that number among the Mermaid's staff. The upper floors are a labyrinth of lounges, cozy bowers, and private rooms. Secret passages are used by staff to come and go without disturbing visitors, and by certain famous clients who wish to avoid being seen. At least one such passage enters the Mermaid underground, running from the rear of a nearby shop.
