The Peaktop Aerie serves as the roost of Waterdeep's famed Griffon Cavalry, a specialized branch of the City Watch.
The Aerie is the collective name for both the cavalry's barracks and its guard posts. The former—a wide tower several stories high—houses around two dozen riders at a given time, along with their mounts. The latter—a cluster of smaller buildings—are where cavalry members engage in combat, training, and riding exercises. It serves as the launching and landing point for the cavalry and is where all young cavaliers begin their training.
Though they are a tight-knit group and will not allow outsiders into their fortress, cavaliers are happy to engage in conversation with those who make the effort to scale the Mountainside, whether to see them or witness the great Griffon rested nearby. Given the isolated nature of the location, visitors are welcomed as long as they don't interfere with ongoing training.
