This open-air space is dreary, poorly-lit, and forlorn. The market square smells of fish and refuse, enclosed by closed shops and warehouses. In the middle of the market is a 30-foot diameter round pit, with a 3-foot high metal rail surrounding it. The Xanathar Guild throws anyone they donโ€™t like into this pit, where they fall about 30 feet down into the  Dungeons of Skullport. About a dozen rickety old market stands dot the area; at most, three or four of these stands are manned.

Most of the merchants are peddling gumpfish, a blind fish that lives in the Sargauth and makes up a good portion of the meat in Skulkersโ€™ diets. Gumpfish is bland and visually unappealing, but surprisingly nutritious. Xanathar enforcers periodically pass through, taking a cut of the gumpfish as tax. For this reason, most Skulkers do their trades privately and fisherfolk will go door-to-door for buyers they know to be reliable. The Guilde want to crack down on this practice and take a cut of all sales, but Skulkers are crafty in their dealings, and know how to avoid the watchful eye.
