Godwin Halborn is the leader of the Black Syndicate, and mortal nemesis of Cedric Vaeryth, leader of the Alterra Thieves' Guild. He formed the Syndicate when he was banished from the Thieves' Guild by Cedric, over an alleged love triangle between the two and an unknown woman.
