Brimladum

The Altonian republic is ruled by seven consuls, each of whom are seasoned commanders and top patrons of the Cult of Speed. They work together in the defense and management of the city. Whenever a wartime general is needed, one to three will be appointed Peregrine, and allowed to delegate their votes to another consul. It is not allowed for there to be an even number of votes, to prevent stalemate; in the event of a consul's death, another will be elected as soon as practicable. Consuls rarely lack command experience, for this reason, as well as the fact that voting rights are not extended to non-veterans. No single consul is allowed to hold more than two votes.  At war, commanders secure their 'voting base' with the spoils of defeated foes. A Peregrine has only attained their position by giving generously to their troops and to the Cult of Speed, whose blessing is required in order to be eligible as a consul.
