  1. Calendars

The Rectified Procession

Royal Calendar
11 Morningstar, 268 RP

This calendar was instituted by The Reign of Eld and is widely used across the continent. It was adopted in response to the Alsuriean Solar Schism. This calendar was created to recapitulate Karnic doctrine in the context of the newly discovered second, smaller sun; the world had gone from having one god to two. This calendar was instrumental in establishing the legitimacy of the Pendragon dynasty claiming the favor of both solar deities. Its months and days are intoned in The High Speech. As such, Scions are naturally sensitive to any misspoken date*.

Under this 'post-Potamic' calendar, there are five 72-day months, as well as an annual week of celebration known as King's Week, which marks the end of winter.

The months are: Morning's Star, Rain's Hand, Brightmas, Frostreap, and Evenstar. The calendar's weeks are five days long, and the days of the week are: Caos, Descerus, Embrull, Gobernus, and Renedo.

These month and day names pertain to an ancient legend recorded in The Florilegium. The original story is lost, and all that now remain is the pared-down foreword known as The Prolegomenon of The Florilegium. Even these tomes are now rare.

Five is a number of great import to the kingdom, for its association with Karna's five pointed star. A five day week and a five month year. It takes five years (called pentennials) to make a baby into a child, five more to grow them into a youth, five more to make them into men and women, as such. While a 15 year-old is considered an adult under legal conventions (see The Pandect), one is not considered fully mature until they are twenty years old. The fourth pentennial completes their physical growth, but the fifth completes their spiritual growth. After 25, one is a fully-fledged adult eligible for citizenship, land ownership, and other privileges. The following 25 years also have their own set of norms, but these are seen as less important outside of highborn families.

*Any incorrect date spoken in The High Speech causes a Scion to automatically pass an Eerie check.
