Speed's Folly is a table-mountain many miles wide, with sheer cliffs at almost every angle. The center of the mesa is bisected by the Tounbank Rill river, and the capital city Brimladum is built into the cliff walls over the river.
The mountain's sides are sheer and craggy around the entire perimeter, rising to a prominence of approximately 12,500 feet. The sides of the mountain are broadly interspersed with natural caves and chambers, most of which have still not been found and navigated. Others still may be forgotten.
The top of the mountain is a vast plains of alien dread. Sometimes shrouded in mist, sometimes baking hot. It is subject to flash floods, lightning storms, and snap freezes. The 'plants' there are strange, almost insect-like things that eat birds and larger prey. The insects themselves are said to be very frightful.
In ancient times, the god Speed loved to run, and he loved to gaze upon his krokes. One day, he trod on one by mistake, killing it. In anguish, he rose the ground up high so that he could watch the krokes while he ran. But as he ran, he kicked the mountain and carved it in two, ruining it as a running track.
