The treasury lies in a large subterranean office beneath the royal gardens. There are rumors of a door within the labyrinth, but the only known entrance is nearby, behind a grand gate in full view of the Royal Court & Palace.
The Royal Gardens contain a combined labyrinth and avian vivarium. Here a peacock, there a Welkenlord Eagles, even one phoenix. There is even a Kroke, but it is merely an articulated skeleton. An extremely elderly lion suns itself by a fountain.
Clerks of the treasury are a special breed. The job is by inheritance only, selected for their unquestioning loyalty and diligence, as well as a certain affinity for doing sums. It is a lifetime appointment with several small privileges, and each clerk is raised by those who know a single indiscretion could doom the family name. Each willingly carries a poison pill which can be used to die honorably if they are put to duress. If a clerk lives long enough to learn not to poison themselves, they normally live for a very long time indeed.
