The sound of the haunted lute.
"Wretches! ye loved her for her wealth and hated her for her pride,
"And when she fell in feeble health, ye blessed her--that she died!
"How shall the ritual, then, be read?--the requiem how be sung
"By you--by yours, the evil eye,--by yours, the slanderous tongue
"That did to death the innocent that died, and died so young?"
- The Lay of Sadie Hackett
"When your family gifted you this lute 5 years ago (before your pilgrimage), it came with a story: it belonged to Lady Sadie, a proud noblewoman who fell in love with a troubador, and rather than marry the lord she was betrothed to, she went to Speed's Folly to live with the troubador. There was a confrontation, which ended with her leaping into the river from a high bridge after the troubador was slain by the lord. You're still not sure if it's just Sadie's ghost or both of them."
