doge

An elected lord and head of state in the Regency of Canidium. Barons, themselves appointed by the queen, elect a small number of dogeships to conduct matters of state at Prima Canidia on their behalf. The spouse of a doge is a dogaressa and the office of the doge is termed dogeship. After a doge's term or their death, a commission passes judgment upon their acts, and their estate is held liable for any discovered malfeasance. Their official incomes are never large.
