House Sindelain (SIN-da-lin) is one of Illhad'or's ancestral houses. It governs over the northwest coast and forests of Illhad'or, including Morravin. Its members are primarily practitioners of magical research.
The House Premier holds the moonblade Daimi'she.
History
House Sindelain was one of the nine founding houses of Illhad'or. During the Morindal Dynasty, the Sindelains served on the Morning Court as royal mages.
A council of thirteen Sindelain mages were serving under the last Morindal queen at the time of her death.
Va'i Expeditions
Under command of former Seconde Amurellon Sindelain, several writ expeditions were carried out to explore Va'i ruins and collect artifacts for research purposes. A number of these artifacts reside in the collections of the Museum of Arcane History.
House Sindelain offered a total of 45,000 gp to a party of hired adventurers to explore a Va'i plains facility in search of a source of infinite magical energy (Tomb of the Scholars). The expedition was ultimately successful, though the location of the power source is currently unknown.
Yesanith Nellanor
Premier Semille Sindelain was introduced to Nellanor through Premier Elemissia Alvaenis, then her apprentice. Drawn to his intellect, Semille approached him after he ended his apprenticeship to offer him resources if he would join her in the study of Animancy.
The pair were both responsible for the construction of the necklaces Lacoraethiel used to enchant his victims.
On Semille's urging, Premier Ei'lianna Sindelain would name Nellanor one of her Secondes.
The Shadows of an Empire
After coming into contact with her Nagpa ancestors, Premier Semille Sindelain made the decision to work alongside them for perceived mutual benefit. Due to House Sindelain's involvement, the nature of these plans were easily kept secret.
It is unknown if House Sindelain had any connection to the Shadowfell before the arrival of the Nagpa, though there is some evidence they had been experimenting with Animancy.
It's implied that Yesanith Nellanor, through House Sindelain, played a part in Lacoraethiel's replacement due to Lacoraethiel's anger at his old friend.
New Years 1347
House Sindelain's plans came to a head on New Years' Eve, when the House took advantage of the final fight of the Solstice of Vandria to send forces into the city of Morravin. While the mages largely managed to subdue the public, they were unable to keep Aurumvorax and Nicolas Beaufont from interfering, leading to their eventual failure to take over the city or to kill Premier Elemissia Alvaenis.
In the process of attempting to banish Aurumvorax to the Shadowfell, Seconde Amurellon Sindelain was caught up in the party's wager to leave with captives Valkyrie and Valessian Alvaenis, causing him to lose his memories once he was returned to the Material Plane.
Disgraced by her actions, Premier Semille Sindelain was forced to resign from her position on threat of death. Given Amurellon's condition, Semille's estranged daughter Ei'lianna took up the Premiership in her stead.
Society
The Sindelains are a famously reclusive House, rarely associating with those outside of their own except in a professional capacity. They are often perceived as secretive and sharply intelligent, but otherwise disinterested in the affairs of non-magical society.
Regardless, due to their interest in magical security, the Sindelains control most establishments of great economic and arcane import, such as Morravin's bank, casino, Museum of Arcane History, and the Cirque Sanguine.
The Sindelains' largest base of operations is the Academié Arcane near Morravin, where the House pursues research projects and educates its members.
Education
Nearly every member of House Sindelain has completed an education at the Academié Arcane in Morravin. While the average Sindelain tradesperson has completed somewhere around thirty years of study, some have studied for two hundred years or more in the pursuit of greater magical prowess.
The Academíe is the only official magical academy in Illhad'or, meaning that any aspiring wizard passes through the purview of the House.
Relationships
House Sindelain historically maintained a long-standing alliance with House Alvaenis.
