Myrelda

Myrelda is a port city on Laertagne's southern coast well-known for its elvish influence. It is the home of Myrel's Dial, an elvish religious site.

Geography

Myrelda is set on steep, terraced cliffs, leading down to the coast. While the paved areas of the city are fairly flat and easily interconnected by stairways, the area outside of Myrelda's walls is rocky and difficult to traverse. Despite its terrain, the area outside of the coastline is very fertile, thanks to soil carried down through the Eastern Corridor.

Weather

Myreldan summers are commonly stormy and prone to harsh seas. The rest of the year, however, sees relatively calm waters and typical weather conditions. Like most of Laertagne, Myrelda sees all four seasons, with a cold and snowy winter.

Society

Myrelda's population is far more intermixed than other Laertagnian territories, owing to its relatively recent acquisition from Illhad'or. As a result, many more examples of elvish architecture, cultural traditions, and even food, language, and academics are present here than in the northern settlements. Its people also tend to be more accepting of others' cultural traditions.

While the walled city primarily provides its own defenses, military presence near to the city is consistently high due to the city's proximity to the coast.

Religion

A variety of gods are worshipped in Myrelda, including human gods common to central and lower Noravia. Myreldans also worship the elvish god Myrel, the city's namesake, though worship in Myrelda differs somewhat from the Illhad'orian tradition.

The city is home to a large population of adherents known as Myrel's Beholden, who are believed to be able to see into the future.

Government

Myrelda and its surrounding state are ruled by a feudal lord, with the title of Lord Myrelda.

Currently, this title is held by (), who rules alongside his wife, Lady Raella Sterling. Controversially, Raella's previous husband was also the previous Lord Myrelda, and it is suspected that her new husband is merely a figurehead.
