Adventurers' Guild

The Adventurers' Guild of Noravia is a guild consisting of mercenaries and tradesmen operating out of Tarraón in western Noravia. Its guild members take part in primarily freelance work around Noravia and its neighboring nations, and are well-known for exploring dungeons, dealing with monsters, and often for unpleasant attitudes.

History

The Guild was founded as a mercenaries' guild in the aftermath of the Curse, in order to aid in clearing out the monsters and other hazards that littered Va'ia, Temessia, and parts of Noravia. Over time, wealthy investors would begin proposing contract jobs to professionals who were affiliated with the guild, offering generous funding to these highly skilled elites. Over time, the Guild would lean further in the favor of contract work, and largely catered to explorers venturing into unknown or dangerous territories.

The Adventurer's Guild of Noravia was formally adopted as the organization's title in 647, when the Guild officially split from its formal affiliation with the Wallwatchers of Temessia.

Membership

Members of the Guild must be citizens of Noravia, and have some provable skill in their trade. While any talented freelancer is able and encouraged to join its ranks, some members are directly scouted out by guildmasters, and may be offered specific offers of engagement.

As long as they meet the requirements of membership and maintain at least one active contract during the month, each member is paid a monthly stipend for their availability, in addition to any wages earned from contract jobs.

Membership grants adventurers additional perks, including discounts on equipment from certain vendors and guildhouse and lodging arrangements, but its most valuable benefit is members' access to exclusive contracts.

Society

The Adventurers' Guild is generally regarded as a society of elites in their fields, though members span a vast gradient of ability. Membership comes with a certain amount of cachet in the West Olor'im, as one can assume that an active guild member is doing a great deal of good for society. As such, many of the most valuable resources for adventurers are locked behind membership, with proprietors often refusing to work with those who are unaffiliated.

Similarly, the most valuable and high-paying contract jobs tend to be pitched exclusively to the Adventurers' Guild, whose members can be regulated and certified.

Relationships

While the Guild's presence is respected and generally understood to be necessary, it is noted that the Guild has a reputation for encouraging the ruthlessness of its members. Competition is much more common than collaboration within the Guild, as more than one member or group of members may be attempting to complete a contract first, particularly among higher-level members who seek particularly valuable contracts.
