Orris Findlay

Orris Findlay is a Dwarf evocation wizard and a companion of Nicolas Beaufont.

Appearance

Orris is of average height and weight for a dwarf. He has long red hair, commonly kept pulled back into wrapped hairstyles, and a full beard which he keeps well-groomed. He typically wears unassuming garments, favoring sturdy adventurers' clothing, though he is rarely seen without a cloak and a leather cap.

Personality

Orris typically comes across as aggressive and egotistical, dismissing others' morals as often as their decisions. He has a tendency to focus solely on his own goals, which is a constant source of tension within Nic's adventuring party. Further, he is noted to have a tendency toward violence, although he seems to be capable of holding in his temper if the situation demands it.

While often regarded as unreliable, however, Orris seems quite willing and able to take charge when necessary, acting as Nic's second-in-command on missions and even acting in his stead when necessary. When pressured, he takes considered actions to protect those he considers to be his peers, despite his lack of regard for those he has no particular affinity with.

Background

Early Life

Orris grew up in Southern Noravia, though he shares few details about his early life. He attended the Conservancy of Arcane Arts in Vesharan, where he would study evocation magic and gain ranks as a wizard. He would be forced to leave the Conservancy after some time as a scholar, owing to an incident in which he killed a high-ranking mage.

Adventuring Career

After his departure from the Conservancy, Orris would make a living offering his services to the Adventurers' Guild of Noravia. While his infamy often meant he was relegated to jobs with less prestige, he made the most of the adventurers' lifestyle until his connections led him to Nicolas, and the two bonded over their education and future goals. They would later join forces to attempt to locate the Star of Abbathor, and Orris helped gather working companions and mercenaries to allow their mission to continue. While his personal relationships with his companions are often strained, he still claims to be proud of their work, and often takes credit for their discovery.

Abilities

Orris possesses a particular affinity for fire and force. In addition to these branches of evocation, however, he seems to have some command over illusions, seen in his ability to hide large groups from sight, and is capable of teleportation.

In addition to his own knowledge, Orris utilizes a wand which, when fully charged, can be detonated in a devastating close-quarters attack.

Interactions

The Search for the Star

Orris played a minor role as an antagonist both in the temple at Mt. Selliduin and in Doladrion during Nicolas Beaufont's pursuit of Aurumvorax.

The Shadows of an Empire

Orris assisted Aurumvorax in the Red Winter Massacre, mainly supporting Nicolas in his fight against the immortal Three.

He would later protect Orivir from a curse-tainted Nicolas in Vestrel's Gate, even showing some small amount of fondness for her.
