(2)The Trial

Session 2
February 3, 2024

The group arrived at the Iron Fort and were put in comfortable accommodations with bars and reinforced doors. They waited for the next day; during the night, Bree, the halfling cook of the Black Pike, visited Peach. She watched her and Gallow sleep, trying to decide if she should kill them; instead, she woke Peach and told her a story. Peache response would determine if she would live or die. After Bree's story, she asked the young half-elf some questions. Peach answered truthfully and without malice, and Bree left, leaving them to their restful sleep. The next day, an elder green Dragonborn, who introduced himself as Eskanor, wanted to ask them questions; after he was done, he informed them that he would represent them in the coming court case. Later that day, they were all brought into a large dining hall, where most of the crew of the Black Pike were. Peach and the others asked questions of Barbarossa, and he answered in his usual cheerful demeanor. During this get-together, the alarm was raised within the prison, and they were locked in a room while the situation was being handled. The two dwarven brothers, Peach and Gallow, saw what looked like a prison escape, which the guards quickly ended. Gallow and Harkin noticed one too many guards returning to the prison. Gallow managed to escape the room and informed a cook, who sounded another alarm. The young Firbolg then told the guards of what had occurred. Later, Gallow and the two dwarven brothers were sent to the Commander of the prison warders, an elder red Dragonborn with an acid scar on the right side of his face; he asked them some questions about the guard and seemed satisfied by their answers.

Later that day, they were all taken to the courthouse, where they faced trial for the incident on the Black Picke. Here, they were introduced to the Voices of the Empress, an intimidating dragon born with snow-white scales and blue robes, and three masked judges, the High Judges. Finally, they meet their prosecutor, an individual wearing a white mask with an egg-sized sapphire embedded in the cloth as a third eye. There were also spectators: a beautiful red-tiefling woman, a dark-skinned human woman with curly brown hair and jewelry in her ears, reminisced of the same type of jewelry that Barbarossa had, and a few others. The trial lasted for many hours. The Seeker was trying his best to find them all guilty. Finally, the prisoner was brought out, and the Seeker questioned him; his answer shocked the Seeker, causing him to ask for a recess. During this time, the passengers of the Black Pick figured out that the prisoner had been the one who broke into the prison and had used a non-magical disguise to look like the prisoner. They decide to inform the court of this against the advice of the Eskanor. Ultimately, they were all found not guilty and were free to leave.

Barbarossa gave one of them a letter and told them to seek out Gorcak at the Luna and Hope Inn in Travelers Rest.
