(4)The Lost Pipe of Custos

Session 4
March 2, 2024

Age of Awakening 1001, Year of the Imperium 299, the month of Titania, first day of summer:

After the strange incident in Mausoleum Hill in Harlow, Peach and Sir Mintra approached the elder stone Genasi, who introduced himself as Professor Clay Highmeadow, a professor of ancient tribes and cultures. He worked and lived in the Erudition Acadamy in the Emerald Quarters and invited them to visit him so he could pay for the information they had passed on. He handed Peach a small triangular tin badge with two sigils stamped on each side. He bid them farewell and looked forward to speaking to them later. Meanwhile, the dwarven brothers and Gallow were returning from the Grand Market, where the elder of the two brothers was slightly annoyed that he had been picked pocketed and hoped the guards, or stone cloaks as the locals called them, would find the thieves. The group arrived simultaneously at the Luna and Hope Inn by fate or chance. They were served a warm stew and ale that Mintra had loaned to the owner of the inn, Gorack. While enjoying their meal, they discussed what had happened and planned what to do the next day. They looked at the notice board and decided to inquire about the new note, the one involving a missing pipe. It was a simple job that would allow them to become more acquainted with Harlow.

The next day, they took one of the strange gnomish carriages to Tower Park, a beautiful park southeast of the Grand Market. They walked through the lovely park, listening to the song of birds and enjoying the scenery, eventually arriving at their location. Before them was a white and blue tower surrounded by a strange silver fence. They arrived at a sturdy wooden door bound with iron. Above the door was a statue of a white owl with sapphire eyes, which suddenly became animated and spoke to them. They showed the note, and the door opened. They entered a beautiful room with a white marble floor and a finely carved table and chairs; everything was inlaid with silver runes. A bowl of fruits and a silver pitcher filled with crystal clear water were on the table. They waited a few minutes before the second door opened, admitting them deeper into the Tower. Within was a massive fireplace with six red velvet chairs facing it. Above the fireplace was an enormous mirror in a beautiful silver frame. After a bit of snooping, they eventually settled down. Not long after, the mirror rippled, and they saw into what looked like a study. Eventually, the Tower's master noticed them, and after some confusion, he hired them to find his pipe.
They were offered a hundred gold coins each and a small description of the boy. Using Sir Mintra's dog's superb nose, he led them to a part of the town known locally as the Last Stand, a poorer part of Harlow. They followed the dog's nose through the rougher parts of the Last Stand, with its wooden buildings peeling with paint and many dark alleyways strewn with garbage. Groups of hard-looking men and women studied them, and ragged-dressed children hid in the shadows. While others stared sightlessly with yellow eyes and oblivious smiles.

Sir Mintras dog eventually led them to the more respectable area of Last Stand, where ramshackle and sagging buildings were replaced by quaint homes with white picket fences, with children running and laughing in the streets and people going about their days, smiling and talking to each other. Here, they saw bakery shops, hardware stores, a few inns, and other places of business, with Stone cloaks patrolling the streets and talking familiarly with the locals.

They approached the guards and inquired about the area and the boy whom the whimsical wizard had told them about. After some back and forth, they pointed towards the bakery owned by a lovely half-elf couple, and because of the unique task, they asked around for a pipe shop and were directed toward Darren's Pipes, a quaint little store owned by an elder Orc.
They eventually discovered the young boy's location; he and his friends usually hung out at an old park that overlooked the Docks of Harlow.

Galloway turned herself into a cat to put the children at ease, and Peach used her allure to baffle the young man who had stolen the pipe with the tried and true trick that works on all teenage boys: that of the mysterious and alluring cleavage. With the boy and his friend's attention otherwise occupied, Peach managed to slip the pipe out of the boy's vest. After, a little scuffle occurred, but no harm befell the young man, and he quickly ran away from the two scary dwarves that had suddenly appeared.
They returned to the Wizard's Tower and placed the pipe in the rightful hands of the wizard; after some confusion from the Wizard's Custos, they were rewarded 50 imperial Thornes ( 500gp). The party returned to the Luna and Hope Inn as the sun set on the first summer day of Harlow.
