The University of St. Brendan

The University of St. Brendan was founded 1601 by the church and a few wealthy inhabitants of the isle. Part of its founding at the time was to compete with Trinity College at Dublin, which had been founded less than ten years before. Since it was founded by the crown, Trinity forbade Catholics from attending, and so St. Brendan's would be an alternative for Irish Catholics. It is home to a large and respected conservation program that works to study and protect the exotic flora and fauna of the island. The church is often working to get scholarships and assistance so that anyone with the potential, no matter their social standing, can strive to better themselves.

O'Brien House - Hall of Residence

The first floor of O’Brien house consisted of a lobby, the RD’s office (which could be approached from the lobby via a sliding glass window), a public restroom, and a snackbar that served coffee, grab-and-go snacks, pre-packaged stuff, and other knick-knaks such as small school supplies, basic cleaning items, and basic first-aid items. There was also a sitting area around a faux fireplace, a telly, and some study tables, available for the residents to use as they pleased.

The westernmost side of the common area serves as your kitchen and parlor. The kitchen is fully functional, with oven, stove, microwave, coffee pot, sink, refridgerator, and cabinet space. You can try writing your name on things, but that doesn't mean others won't use them anyway. There is also a sectional sofa (which replaces the smaller couch in the picture) positioned in front of a flat-screen telly in the corner. The common areas also include two study areas, which are simply arrangements of tables, chairs, chalkboards, and shelves.

The rumble of washers and driers... The sweet smell of fabric softener... someone's discarded sock on the ground posing a tripping hazard... Be careful not to leave your clothes in the machine too long after the load has finished, or someone might come along and dump them on the ground, impatient for the use of the machine for themselves!

In-game, rooms are assigned pretty much randomly, but behind the scenes, players get to pick who they are 'randomly' assigned to live near. Please let staff know which room you'd like. There are more floors up above these, but they won't be made available unless needed.

Each ensuite bathroom contains a WC, a wash hand basin and a shower unit. All of the bedrooms are fully fitted with built in wardrobe, bed, desk and study chair.

Tasty, healthy food from a calorie counted menu using only the freshest ingredients. Coffee and tea right in the middle of O'Donell Student Center that is guaranteed to brighten up your day. Offering baked goods, breakfasts and brunch, the café also features an innovative self-service counter, so if the queue is long, your wait needn’t be! Students and staff are also permitted to bring their own food into the communal area.

East Mezzanine

There are several doors leading to conference rooms and private study rooms. Students can use the school's website to book a room for their meeting or study session. A D&D Group is among the regulars up here.

West Mezzanine

This chunk of interconnected offices belongs to The Herald: the University's Newspaper On display up here behind a glass barrier is the island's first printing press.

The Great Hall

This area is normally locked unless there is an event going on. This space can accommodate many types of events, from live music and hypnotists to student expos.

The Birley Wing

This wing is named after Norma Reid Birley, a statistician, researcher, teacher and senior administrator in higher education. It contains classrooms, labs, study areas, professor offices, and graduate student offices for departments such as Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Technology, etc.

The Herival Wing

This wing is named after John Herival, a British science historian and former World War II codebreaker at Bletchley Park. It contains classrooms, labs, study areas, professor offices, and graduate student offices for departments such as History, Anthropology, Theology, etc. Bradan's office is here.

The Larmor Wing

This wing is named after Sir Joseph Larmor, an Irish and British physicist and mathematician who made breakthroughs in the understanding of electricity, dynamics, thermodynamics, and the electron theory of matter. It contains classrooms, labs, study areas, professor offices, and graduate student offices for departments such as Physics, Engineering, etc.

The O'Cathain Wing

This wing is named after Ruaidri Dáll Ó'Catháin, an Irish harper and composer that we're not even entirely sure was actually a real person. It contains classrooms, labs, study areas, professor offices, and graduate student offices for departments such as Music, Theatre, Arts, etc.

The Patterson Wing

This wing is named after David J. Patterson, a Northern Irish taxonomist specializing in protozoa and the use of taxonomy in biodiversity informatics. It contains classrooms, labs, study areas, professor offices, and graduate student offices for departments such as Biology, Chemistry, etc.

The Rogers Wing
