- Founded by US president William Howard Taft, shortly after the FBI, draws its funding from the FBI in "pencil cost $10,000" style
- Was set up in collaboration with the slingers, drawing on their expertise, so the slingers had a heavy influence in it
- Is still a distinctly american, and separate organization, due to the US presidents being aware of it, as well as the head of the FBI, and American politics influencing the organization to handle supernatural matters in the US.
- Organizations original purpose was to identify, train, educate, and regulate supernatural beings, like teaching vampires to fly under the radar, and helping dullahans. it was not until later did a small schism with the slingers occur with the US government pushing it more into a policing role.
- No one really actively controls the group in the US government anymore, short of something hitting the news in a major way, causing a reason to be checked up on. the group strives to police their own to keep this from happening. but it is still very bureaucratic in nature
- If you need an ID/new legal records, or some such, they help. like if you are a 400 year old vampire and want to buy a house..you need some sort of legal background.This is their main task, to help regulate.
