The Tower of the Mound

Nestled on a small hill in a nondescript valley sits an unassuming wooden tower, four stories high with a thatched roof. The towers uppermost floor has a small outcrop, a room of modest size, jutting outwards precariously with little support underneath. The tower itself has no doors externally, and it would seem as if it had no way in at all.

This tower is lovingly referred to by a smattering of wizards throughout the land as "The Tower of the Mound", and those with magical knowledge would recognize it as a tower of repute. The Mound is said to train wizards fit for kingly service, and many Viziers and Royal Advisors hail as alum from the tower.

The tower itself is very exclusive, and selects young wizards based on magic potential, often choosing second sons and daughters of noble families, but sometimes offering orphaned or otherwise destitute children a home and path to success, albeit a long and hard one.

The Tower itself is said to be a puzzle, and an aspiring wizards first test is to simply get in. After this, the tower and its internal happenings are shrouded in mystery, and while no alum claims it is a secret, most speak shortly and indirectly about the curriculum. Talk of the charms and features of the tower can often be eked out of ex-students, but more oft a conversation about the tower dies quickly with graduates fondly staring off at distant memories that they have no intention of sharing.
