Of all the lands I have documented, the Jagged Crown is simultaneously the most awe-inspiring and least inviting. Unimaginably tall spires of rock pierce the sky, and a permanent layer of pristine snow lines the ground, disturbed only by the sparse wildlife and hearty denizens. It truly is a sight to behold. From a distance. I will describe what lies within, and I hope my descriptions will do the sights justice - I sacrificed several toes to bring these images to you, dear reader.
-Excerpt from Geographica Terrania
The frigid north of BaelVarnath is a harsh and unforgiving place, but pales in comparison to the Jagged Crown. Sharp valleys and peaks give the mountain range its jagged appearance, and have been the downfall of many a traveler.
The Jagged Crown truly starts at 10,000 feet, and some of the stone spires can well exceed 20,000 feet. In addition to the perils of the steep cliffs and stumbling paths, explorers must also contend with snowy conditions and extreme temperatures.
Despite all this, there are some who still make their homes here, though few but the most well-traveled scholars would know it. The nomadic Goliath tribes endure the treacherous conditions as a means to constantly challenge themselves. Meanwhile the Aarakocra covet the freedom of the skies above, and make the homes in the crags of the tallest spires.
These peaks are also home to the Monastery of Air, where monks train to learn the ways of the Aarakocra surrounded by the clouds.
