Progenitor
It is unknown where the Progenitors came from, but the pantheon starts with Ao, god of day, and Shar, goddess of night. The two loved each other and together all possibility existed. From this couple were born twin children: Lathander, god of the sun who shone of brilliant gold; and Selûne, goddess of the moon who shone of somber silver. However, this union began to weaken as Universal Chaos drove a wedge between their ideals; Ao embodied the tenets of Good, while Shar embraced the tenets of Evil. As a result, the two could no longer be in proximity of one another, and separated as far as possible, taking one child each. Lathander's brilliant shine appealed to Ao, while the somber glow from Selûne resonated with Shar.
Lathander and Selûne were heartbroken to be separated, never to see one another again. So that they may still maintain even an indirect contact, the two created three beings who would form all of Creation: Corellon, the god of Life; Kelemvor, the god of Death; and Mystra, the god of Magic. Given their sacred duty, the Primordial deities set about creating the world as the Progenitors withdrew.
The Progenitor gods gave rise to all other gods in existence, but do not respond to worshipers. Temples exist to give thanks to these gods, but their worshipers wield no divine power.

Primordial
The Age of Creation begins with Mystra, the goddess of Magic, who through her power formed the four elements: Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. When the elements were formed, they all coexisted but were lifeless; the Wind was still, the Seas calm, the Land flat, and the Temperature uniform.
Borrowing the powers of Corellon, god of Life, and Kelemvor, god of Death, Mystra breathed Life and Death into the elements and set into motion the transformation of Terrania. The Winds galed and breezed, the Seas rose and fell, the Land buckled and fractured, and the Temperature heated and cooled. With transience introduced to the Elements, but none to handle the reigns, the Elements fell to Chaos, the default state of the Universe. Thus, did gods rise at Mystra’s command to govern these Elements: Akadi, goddess of Air; Istishia, god of Water; Grumbar, god of Earth; and Kossuth, god of Fire. And from these gods arose Law. And from Law came a schism in the Planes as existence split into Law and Chaos.
To populate Terrania with Life, the Primordials fused their energy to give birth to Silvanus, god of Nature, who was instructed to create all manner of flora and fauna. Among these myriad of creations came the Racial deities, from whom all of their respective races are descended.
The Primordial gods do give powers to their worshipers, but generally communicate through images and emotions. However, powerful worshipers have been known to hear missives directly from these gods in the Primordial language.
