Apearance

Cherish is an albino tiefling with four curved horns; two of them, large and almost ram-like, sprout from her temples, with the other two, shorter and curved like waves, nestled between them. Despite being descended from the demon lord Mephistopheles, a being with blood-red skin and ebony horns, Cherish appears, at first glance, closer to a living statue than a person. Skin the shade of marble, glassy pupilless eyes, and long silver hair all further the illusion.

A slim figure and just over five feet, she doesn't cut the most imposing figure, but her curved fangs, claw-like nails, and blade-sharp devil's tail belie her true nature. Her features are similarly sharp, with high cheekbones and a determined brow matched against soft cheeks and cherubic lips, and often stained with kohl and rouge to create contrast. A slight widows peak rests between her polished horns, leading into waves of loose silver coils and ending at the base of her tail. (Compulsively, Cherish always decorates said tail in precious gems and jewels, a holdover from her days as an urchin.)

Though hidden, Cherish does have a small fifth horn just behind her hairline. She is deeply concerned by it, knowing it to be a tie to Somnara, the five-horned succubus queen and one of the being responsible for her Curse. As a result, she prefers to keep it sanded and covered over at all times.

History

Cherish and her twin brother, Valor, were born in the town of Nashkel in 1469 to unknown parents, who abandoned them immediately following their birth. Even as infants, the were widely feared and reviled by the superstitious populous, due in large part to their infernal bloodline and exceedingly unusual coloring, as well as their Curse. This eventually lead to the townspeople chasing the twins out of town entirely, an event that Cherish remembers with all-too-perfect detail. This would be her first memory.

They fled into the woods, wandering aimlessly for several days before stumbling across a small hut. It was here that they first met Gina Hazel, a kindly witch whose druidic remedies were helpful in suppressing the more problematic aspects of their Curse. She welcomed them with warmth. Acting as a makeshift guardian, she provided them with food and clothing, taught them to how to speak, and did her best to protect them from the world outside for as long as she could. The twins, old enough now to understand their situation, decided they deserved names, too.

Valor named his sister Cherish, for the person he cherished above all else, while Cherish named her brother Valor, for the person who always protected her with courage and kindness. They began to develop their own thoughts and opinions, playing in the forest during the day and never leaving one another's side. For a time, they were happy.

Then Hazel died. The twins hid, terrified, as they watched her slaughtered in her own home from the relative safety of the root cellar. The intruders carried her body away with them, and the children spent two more days hidden under the floorboards, waiting for her to come back.

STILL EDITING

The twins wandered for some time before making their way to Baldur's Gate. It's massive bridge served as a roof to the homeless community living below it, and the twins were able to carve out a space where they could hide without fear of persecution.

Wyrm's Crossing 1475

, and suddenly they were exposed to the cruel truth of Balur's Gate and its underworld. Quickly having to adapt, they took to pickpocketing and dumpster diving as a means of survival. Cherish's Spark kept them warm through the winter, while Valor's stealth and cunning allowed them to elude those who wished them harm. While piety had its place in the Grey Harbor, the twins were never fortunate enough to see it's gentler aspects as most of Baldurians viewed them as devil spawn, refusing them any sanctuary they may have otherwise been afforded. And with the Second Sundering of 1482 and the emergence of so many Chosen, the unnatural tieflings, heralded by the sounds of grating chains and a tense, predatory atmosphere, quickly became something of an urban legend. They were an easy target, a scapegoat for the daily horrors of a city in upheaval, and the people of Baldur's Gate were more than happy to treat them as such.

They lived in fear, hiding away in bolt holes and rooftops to avoid the seething locals. Cherish's burgeoning magic became their only defense as the darkest elements of the underbridge began to seek them out, desperation overtaking all reason. It was around this time that she built her first shrine to the goddess Mystra, knowing her to grace her chosen with the same silver flames Cherish had held all her life. It wouldn't be until years later that she discovered Mystra was actually dead, and switched from prayer to pious mourning.

Eventually, the stress became too much. Getting food was nearly impossible with so many people actively looking to hurt them, and the constant moving and repeated over-expenditure of her magic left Cherish weak. She grew deathly ill.

In one timeline, this led to her brother carrying her through the streets, desperate to find help, and eventually being picked up by a wealthy philanthropist by the name of Vome Ragnor. He took them to his villa, providing them each a room (though Valor would slip out of his every night to watch over his sister) and hiring a healer to look after Cherish until she was out of danger. He fed and clothed them, visiting each and every day to see how their recovery was going and if there was anything else they needed.

Then shit got baaad. he was 13.
