The caverns stretched before us, not wanting to go towards the irritable fire bugs, we decided to head another direction and soon found ourselves squeezing down a very narrow passage, the dwarves advanced as scouts using their ability to see in the dark, the rest of us hanging back, they indicated they had found a small cavern ahead.
My brave hound began to snarl at something creeping up on us from behind, and before we could react, a large arachnid took a bit out of the hound's flank, in no position to fight we hasted towards the cavern ahead to battle the creature.
The hound escaped another attack as we swarmed out of the tunnel, my two warriors shot their arrows into the darkness and scored hits, sending the wretched insectoid to the great web in the sky, our strong dwarf dragged the corpse back so it would not impede egress back through the tunnel.
And so it should, the cavern's grisly contents revealed a number of aged but burned corpses, and scorched walls, evidence of a terrible death by immolation, our thoughts now turned to the rumours of a the great wurm referred to by those who followed the king under the mountain.
Not wanting to chance upon a dragon lair, we headed back and around, this time coming on two lizards sleeping upon a glowing bed of lava, they did not seem to be aware of us, but we chose another route that allowed us to sneak past and see beyond a doorway, our strong dwarf lifting aside a great slab blocking it.
The room we encountered showed signs of a battle, an armoured knight atop a mound of skeletal remains, he appeared to be lifeless and not undead, but his physique was as if he had recently perished, his armour and sword appeared enchanted and this was confirmed by a casting of a spell, which also revealed some arrows and the spear gained from our victory over the rat folk.I donned the knight's armour, which was a snug fit, light, and much sturdier, handing my chain to a warrior who had joined us from the neanderthal tribe, as the rest of the crew searched the knight's quarters, finding a secret passage.
The strong dwarf ventured down the passage leaving us back in the room, but found a dead end, after another search another secret door was discovered, and upon opening we heard a gasp ...
