Expedition 49f - Koko's Account

May 18, 2023

The leader of the rabbits, once free of Mar Nod's iron grip, decided wisely to cooperate, telling us of possible denizens and danger ahead, I extolled the virtues of the Lord of Chaos to someone obviously of the less lawful and he agreed to join us.

The corridor of doors, one with slime and one with a warning, did not present opportunities, so we pressed on delving deeper, getting to a side passage blocked by a portcullis and a room with curtains beyond, intrigued we summoned the hardiest of us to lift the great iron barrier.

A retainer approached the curtains but as soon as they were touched he vanished, the warrior, concerned, rushed forward to draw the curtain to reveal a curious sight, a room with a mirror showing the halfling lackey in battle with a zombie, but not in the room itself, just in the mirror!

The warrior commanded us to avert our eyes, as he raised his strange shield that allowed him to see whilst still in cover, he advanced and attempted to strike the zombie where it should be, bit his weapon passing through the obvious apparition, alas the battle did not do well for the halfling and he fell to the zombie's cruel blows.

Distraught, the warrior shattered the mirror, and all was lost, no bodies or blood.

Pressing on we encountered a bevy of beetles, dispatched quickly, they glowed and we considered them a source of light, but decided to advance up a wide corridor, which we discovered littered with robed bodies, as if a battle had been fought, and then a pit filled with more bodies, and some open doors revealing side passages.

The mage discovered what appeared to be a mechanism, when pressed opened a secret passage, but angry buzzing from beyond fortold we had disturbed yet another army of giant insects, which came forward and swarmed amongst us.

The creatures were hard to engage with weapons, and the rabbit leader fell to their stings, the mage muttered some vile arcane words and with a swiff of his hand, the flying beasts fell dazed and we're quickly dispatched.
