Stepping over the bodies of their late prisoner and flying assailants, the party investigated the secret passage. There was little of interest in the room beyond, but Alfredward noticed a button in the wall identical to the one which had opened the door they'd just come through. Pressing it led to another, larger corridor, and they followed it north, observing but not investigating rooms as they passed.
They heard a clanking sound come from the darkness ahead but, as they started to form ranks across the wide corridor, Alfredward and Konrad both suddenly dropped from view. The party had just enough time to note that the two had fallen into a ten-foot pit when a purple aura surrounded the pair and they vanished. Immediately Asher leapt into the pit and he too disappeared. The rest of the adventurers had little time to worry about them as several armoured skeletons emerged from the gloom with weapons raised.
The disappearing trio found themselves in a small room with one other occupant, a humanoid figure who slowly turned and tried to eat their brains. They hacked it down without any issue and set about exploring their new surroundings. There was no obvious way out other than one wall which, the dwarf decreed, looked very similar to the bricked up doorways they'd passed. A note appeared between them with a purple flash in Mandras' handwriting, stating that those left behind would continue heading northwards. With only a crowbar being the only remotely usable tool between them, they started scraping away at the brickwork.
Meanwhile the rest of the adventurers, having clouted the skeletons, came across a set of double doors. Curiosity piqued, they pushed them open and were greeted with the sight of a room with a few bricked up doorways and another exit carved into the shape of a great skull.
The trio had spent an hour carving themselves a way out, and as they took
their bearings there were a series of purple flashses as their companions
appeared in the just-vacated room. Believing themselves to have found a
possible tomb or lair for some hefty undead, the party had opted to return to
the pit to join up with their colleagues. Sticking to their policy of heading
northwards, they all did so and, to their relief, found themselves back in the room where they'd performed unsuccessful surgery on Alesandese.
Using Koko's map, they traced their way back to the skull door, and Konrad the Unwise boldly stepped into the maw-way. The party held their breath but, when nothing happened to the cleric, boldly followed him. The corridor had a lot of doors leading off to the side but no obviously grander door than the rest. Convinced there must be an important burial room somewhere, the adventurers explored the walls and found another secret door at the end of the corridor. Beyond it lay another corridor leading to a bricked up doorway. Wary of the hidden elements they'd come across so far, the party advanced very cautiously, and Alfredward noticed yet another secret door leading off to the side.
It led off to a small room with two sarcofagi standing aside a bowl of gems atop a wooden chest. True to their practice so far, the adventurers were far more concerned about the calibre of monster they might be up against, so they flung open the lids and hacked at the emerging creatures. One swatted Alfredward across the face and paralysis laid the dwarf low, but otherwise the two pair of shrivelled undead were dispatched easily. Propping up the motionless dwarf, the party sat down and started sifting through the jewels.
