Expedition 49h - Koko's Account

June 15, 2023

Our attention turned to the bricked up tomb before us, without suitable equipment we managed to hammer our way through, but doing so attracted the attention of a number of beetles, which were hacked away without issue.

The tomb revealed an open sarcophagus, two ominous statues, and a dark figure at the back of the room, our warriors and the silly priest charged atop the stone coffin, but the dark figure raised its arms and the two statues came to life, raining blows upon us.

One of my retainers aimed a shot on the figure, but upon meeting its gaze was reduced to a quivering state, warning the others about the creature's fearful stare, meanwhile I called on the mighty Mar Nod to silence the figure lest it attempted to cast spells upon us.

Those on the coffin noticed strange jars inside, thinking this dark figure may have buried its soul, they smashed a couple and it did indeed seem to harm and anger the figure.

The statues were engaged, my faithful hound managed to bite one but retreated with a bloody mouth, the other proved difficult as weapons seemed to adhere to it, meanwhile the dark figure laid hands on the law-lolly priest, withering his bones and reducing him to a catatonic state.

Fierce combat ensued, the smashed soul jars and repeated strikes from the warriors defeated the dark figure, but its stone guardians still remained, a strike by the dwarf caused his magical sword to disintegrate, and a strike by my cursed mace reduced it to but a stick.

Eventually the statues were reduced to rubble and we emerged triumphant, loot was a-plenty and our knight felt his curse lifted with the defeat of the dark lord, but we had two of our number as good as moribund, we made our way back to the castle to rest, vowing to return and seek another foe that will help the dwarf end their curse.
