Expedition 50a - Koko's Account

July 6, 2023

The next day after a short rest, returning to the barrows with my two remaining and suitably chaotic retainers, the crew descended again to make our way to where a snake attack had doomed a hireling, on the way we found a room where the floor had suspiciously been covered in sand, wondering if this was some kind of structural fault we sent in our gaggle of dwarves.

The sand formed into pseudopods that battered the dwarves, eventually forming into large solid creatures, fortunately they were able to be damaged and collectively we managed to de-silicate them, suffering some bruising that needed attention from our artifacts of healing.

Exploring close to where the teleport trap had dumped some of us, we discovered a corridor with statues in alcoves and some rooms at the end, some of the forward party, examining a dead end, fell into a simple pit trap, but at that point a flurry of bird like creatures came down and attacked us, one sinking its wretched beak into my retainer's neck. We quickly dispatched the beaked horrors, my other retainer skewering away the attached one.

We explored the rooms at the end, in one lay some bones and in the other lay some pieces of clay tablet. Our mage, whilst outwardly useless, just happened to know how to use magic to read the inscriptions on the tablet, after piecing it together, once read there was a flash and he glowed, the unmistakable ghastly aura of eternal goodliness, it did not improve his composure.

The room of bones started to be disturbed, a few bones hurled by some mysterious unseen force at my retainer, I closed the door only to hear more bones clatter against the other side, similarly in the room with the tablet, the dwarf got battered with other bits of masonry.

As we were unsure of this phenomena, we retreated down the hallway, the invisible entity did not follow and we decided to return to the corridor of battle and seek another way from there, only to discover a bottomless pit, which by sheer fortune none of us fell into.

More rooms await, one with an entity that cheated death and could alleviate the curse on our dwarven brothe
