Expedition 52d - Mandras' Account

February 1, 2024

Mandras looked around himself. The party seemed to have shrunk down to Hats, Ludicrous and a newcomer who had joined the party goodness knows how – nice young man but a tad green around the gills. Ok, nothing for it but to take the lead.

After inspecting the sarcophagus, to no gain, Mandras set off to the N, following the corridor in a westerly and then southerly direction. Hitting a T junction, he noticed a hairless ape lying dead on the floor… hmmm, they’d killed that only an hour or two earlier – yet they hadn’t doubled back, so they had taken an alternative route to get back to here…

Oh well, once again, nothing for it. Off they went to the W. Reaching a door, they heard voices arguing beyond it. Mandras booted the door down, heedless of traps… Another sarcophagus room, but this time, with 5 hairless apes active within. Three were quickly neutralised with extreme prejudice, while the other two fled past the party and out the door. Looking around, Mandras saw frescos of warfare painted floor to ceiling around the walls – to the glory perhaps of the being within the stone repository? He pried open the lid. The body within was wearing gorgeous but antiquated armour, it didn’t seem to be overly interesting in practical terms. There was also a falx, which Mandras tossed into his backpack, so to speak.

The sound of chanting came from the corridor. Not the damn cultists again!  The party hid on each side of the door. Mandras, peeking, saw camel masked brethren walking towards them, but oddly weaving and staring at the floor. It was not hard to dispatch them when they came in, though Simon and Ludicrous managed to stun the last one. It turned out they were here on cleaning duty and afraid of snakes. More interestingly, they seemed to serve Malachie…
