Adventurers

Contrary to the camel-masked prisoner’s cry of alarm, what swept into the room were not flying snakes but giant bats. The adventurers drew weapons and sliced at the flying mammals until the remnants flew back into the corridor, leaving some of the party injured and their captive dead upon the sarcophagus. Cursing the loss of a possible guide, they turned instead to the map they’d found earlier and tried to place in their mental diagram of the temple layout.

After some wary advancing and reassessing of the layout, the party found what they were looking for and made a beeline for the X marked on the parchment, ignoring all tempting doors en route until they came across a slab in the floor which could pull open to reveal a way down.

The descent brought them into a bedroom of some dignitary. Simon, buoyed by his new ownership of a magical sword, walked over to a writing desk and reached for an old cloak draped across the back of a chair. Suddenly it wrapped itself across his shoulders and the 5-ft tall elf started strutting around loudly declaring that they must go and slay Darius; the adventurer had been possessed by Demetrius, a dead cleric of the pre-sunk temple who wished to kill his brother for serving Malachie.

Seeing this as aligning with their goals for the time being, and glad for another guide, the party let him lead the way through the dungeon, fighting off animate armours and gargoyles stationed by passageways. Konrad and Hats took quite a battering along the way, so the party were grateful for this Demetrius’ healing prayers.

The possessed elf carried on, tumbling into a spiked pit which he insisted hadn’t been there earlier, and brought the rest of the adventurers into an enormous room populated as far as they could see with pillars and pews depicting the various defaced symbols of the temple’s trio of old gods all covered with a slimy goo. A masked and robed figure in the torchlight turned and approached. Two more appeared behind it, and in response to the party’s warning call the robes split to reveal far too many tentacle arms and legs. The party backed up into the corridor, ready for another fight.
