Adventurers

Rarder and Koko joined the rest of the party in Vyones having recruited nearly thirty mercenaries from Ximes. They sought an audience with the duke of the city, but had to make do with an underling. That bureaucrat did, for a bag of coins and having determined they had no immediate wish to join the city's war, direct them to a noble who told them of the theft of his beautiful mirror by one Gaspard du Nord.

Now that they knew the former pirate had at some stage possessed one of the items they needed to return home, the party set off with their new pack of mercenaries and retainers for the caves. The descended the cliffs a bit further south to explore some of the other entrances. Noting a door blocked up by an intentional heap of rocks, they opted for a larger opening a bit further on.

It opened out into a great pool of water but there was a partial rim of rockiness above the water level. Sending their new thief retainers over a gap to tie a series of ropes and pitons to allow for easier access, they paused as the water sloshed and then spilled up and over their feet. An enormous head moved into the torchlight and everyone beat a very hasty retreated. It seemed they'd found the creature the selkie had warned them about.

They opted instead to investigate an opening from which a stream of water was falling. Up went the thieves again, revealing that this hole also opened up into a larger cavern. The adventurers clambered up the thrown rope and poked around a weathered door set into the wall. A sturdy shoulder barge from Mandras and Konrad ripped it from its hinges and revealed a long room with a number of bloated corpses resting upon slabs leading beyond the torchlight.

Warily they edged in and, as anticipated, the corpses rose and charged them. The party retreated to the other side of the doorway and funnelled the undead. Mandras swung the Sword of Sylaire and it cut through the creatures easily, but he wasn't quick enough to stop one reaching beyond Konrad's armour and sapping away some of the new dwarf's life essence.

While the former cleric recovered, the others explored the now-empty tomb, finding little except for a ring (which Conciencia revealed to be magical) and a crown from one of the wights. Mandras noticed some verdigris flakes spreading out at the bottom of a wall, which further investigation revealed bore two buttons side by side. Noting their location, the adventurers decided to return to Vyones for Konrad to recover and to have the treasures valued.
